EC / EO / EL Inserts

CJC™ ion exchange inserts (fuller's earth, activated alumina, ion-exchange resin) are used for neutralising acidic compounds in fluids such as transformer oil, gas engine oil or phosphate esters.

Among other things, ion exchange filter inserts:

  • Reduce of total acid number (TAN)
  • Increase surface tension
  • Reduce the power factor (tan delta)
  • Increase the breakdown voltage

Reducing oil acidity extends oil lifetime and reduces the fluid system’s ageing and wear and tear.

The amount of acid-reducing filtration material needed to restore oil varies from oil to oil. Among other things, this depends on water content, oil temperature and particle contamination levels.

Filtered transformer oil can be expected to reach levels equal to or better than standards for new oil.

Filtered gas engine oil can be expected to result in reduced TAN, thereby extending oil change intervals. Combined with a fine filter, Si-levels will also be reduced.

APPLICATION

Ion exchange inserts work by adsorbing acidic compounds from the oil. They consist of a polyester needle felt filled with granulated fuller's earth, activated alumina or ion-exchange resin beads.

The ion exchange inserts should be used in conjunction with a type A or B CJC™ Filter Insert.

  • The CJC™ EC Filter Inserts consist of fuller's earth / Attapulgus clay, a natural product used for acid neutralisation since 1966.
  • The CJC™ EO Filter Inserts consist of aluminium oxide, a synthetic product first used in 1970.
  • The CJC™ EL Filter Inserts consist of molecular sieve made of a weak alkaline anion resin.

FILTER INSERTS A

The CJC™ A Filter Inserts consist of bonded discs. Main ingredient is wood cellulose.
APPLICATION
The type A Filter Insert is ideal for fine filtration of mineral and synthetic based

FILTRATION CAPABILITY
All CJC™ Filter Inserts have an oil filtration degree of 3 µm (micron) absolute. This means that 98.7% of all solid particles larger than 3 µm and approximately 50% of all particles larger than 0.8 µm are retained in one pass.

  • Engine lube oils
  • Turbine lube oils
  • Hydraulic oils
  • Gear oils
  • Honing oils
  • Quenching oils

A-inserts have a very high dirt holding capacity:
A 15/25 Insert = 1.5 litres of dirt
A 27/27 Insert = 4.0 litres of dirt
A 38/20 Insert = 2,5 litres of dirt
The water absorption capacity:
Up to 50% of the total contaminant holding capacity.

FILTER INSERTS B

CJC™ B Filter Inserts consist of bonded discs made from cellulose and cotton linters.

APPLICATION
B Filter Inserts are manufactured especially for CJC™ Filters used for filtration of mineral oil based

  • Lubricating oils
  • Hydraulic oils
  • Turbine lubricating oils
  • Gear oils
  • Honing oils
  • Rolling oils

Dirt holding capacity:
B 15/25 Insert = 1.5 litres of dirt
B 27/27 Insert = 4.0 litres of dirt

Water absorption capacity:
Up to 50% of the total contaminant holding capacity.

FILTER INSERTS BNK 27/27

BNK 27/27 Filter Inserts are manufactured especially for CJC™ Filters employed in the filtration of insulating oils in tap changers for efficient particle and water removal.

BNK Inserts are dried especially for optimal water and dirt-holding capacity.
The insert is mounted with a strainer in the centre hole.

The dirt-holding capacity of a new BNK 27/27 Filter Insert is 4.0 litres.
The water absorption potential is up to 50% (i.e., 2,000 ml H20) of the total contaminant holding capacity
